or Stratigraphical composition of life in an alleyway.
Natural sand(city, forest), dirt(city), concrete, epoxy resin, gesso, utility paint, oil, acrylic, damar, gamvar, uv archival spray on stretched canvas.
This piece began from a memory of Montreal—standing in my kitchen window staring into the alleyway; the drizzling rain, the concrete jungle, and the thousands of shades of dripping gray construction melting into one another. I hand-foraged sand from meaningful locations to create my own concrete, and used diverse implements like construction trowels, concrete brooms and automobile tires to apply media, embedding the subtle texture of the city’s sidewalks, streets and hidden alleyways through the work’s layers. I intended it as an ode to the haptic memory of Montreal, the city of my youth, and its romantic drizzling stone-grays.
